With a wedding in just under 7 months, I suppose it's time to start planning. I've been turning to my typography board for a bit of inspiration for Save the Dates, a return address stamp, and all those other little details that make paper so pretty. It's hard to beat a beautiful cursive handwriting mixed with old school serifs. I'll need to practice getting the letters just right.

::the old fashioned type::

Whenever I'm in need of some inspiration, I can always turn to typography. I'm especially fond of early type treatments and classic lettering because it's the perfect mix of serif, sanserif and unique cursive or calligraphy. No need for heavy graphics and tons of color either-- let the type do all the work in black and white.

This past weekend, Jay and I had a little BBQ in our backyard. The plants are growing like crazy back there: flowers, vines, herbs and shrubs galore! We picked up a few growlers from Beach Brewery and some microbrew variety packs. We even had little tasting cups for people to try the different varieties. Jay manned the grill and the food was a big hit too. 

This was our first time hosting since we moved to Virginia, so it was nice to get the group together and relax at home. I get so excited about all the little details of a party. Besides decorating with some of my vintage collection, I designed little signs. Feel free to click on them and print them out if you'd like...

Admiring the work of Amy Borrell– beautiful colors + perfectly delicate illustrations. She has a couple eye-catching blogs too (all the mountains and cake with giants). 

Ever since I got a Wacom tablet I've been playing around with handwritten type and using hand-drawn elements in some of my design work. As I continue working on my new blog and website, I'll definitely be incorporating some personal touches (maybe a drawing or two).

I'm traveling to DC this weekend and staying with an old friend from high school. Jay and I are bringing our bikes on the train and hope to ride to as many museums, parks and eateries as we can fit into our time there. I love visiting new places! I'll be keeping an eye out for creative-types. Anyone know of any cool vintage stores in the area?

This is such a neat infographic (it's a long one, the link has the full image). Crazy to think that some fonts have been around since the 1400s. Typography is fascinating. 

Have you guys seen the Helvetica documentary? You should. It's on Netflix.

I picked up this old program from a vintage collector and new friend. Her house was filled with all kinds of antique furniture, vintage hardware, old frames...a little bit of everything. It's a B.F. Keith's Palace Theatre program from December 1917. It's right on Broadway and after reading about it, it's even more fascinating. It's so cool to flip through the pages. I've always been drawn to the creative inside publications. Top department stores on 5th Avenue showing off fancy fur coats, FAO Schwarz advertising winter sporting goods, beauty products and Turkish cigarettes...

There's even articles on proper attire for men and women while attending the theatre. Wouldn't it be nice to dress to the nines for nights out these days? Ladies, get your fur coats. 

::shop update // for the type lovers::

A shop update of things with type. Cool, colorful labels on glass bottles, pretty stenciled pottery and of course a couple wonderfully graphic tins. I love these as storage containers for all sorts of random collections. Anything with type + vintage advertisement is perfect in my book.

1. Set of three vintage glass bottles - start your collection
2. Vintage Calumet baking powder round tin - store your pencils or buttons
3. Mayo's tobacco vintage tin box - they used these as a lunch box after all the tobacco was gone
4. Pair of small pottery crocks - add some small flowers!
