::boo!::

Monday 31 October 2011

This year, Jay and I will be staying home to hand out candy, hoping that cleverly dressed kids come by trick or treating. We thought about hiding behind bushes and scaring them, but it's been cold lately. It hit 40° this past weekend, so I'll be content cuddled up on the couch. Which sounds pretty good to me after a busy few weeks.

I'll be eating my candy of choice...Reese's peanut butter cups.

::a place to cook::

Sunday 30 October 2011

I absolutely love this kitchen. It's a little bit industrial, a little country + ample white space. The open shelving and storage makes it look very home-y. It's just perfect (minus the hanging saw).

::happy picking::

Friday 28 October 2011

Last month I met a woman at the Portsmouth Antiques to Flea Market. I bought some vintage wallpaper from her, 2 bags full of vintage lace, trim, thread and buttons and a perfectly rustic old baker's rack, which I plan to use as a display piece for future markets/shows. I'm meeting up with her again in North Carolina this weekend to see if she has anymore aged items I'd like to make mine. It's funny in this "business" how much I relate to people twice (or three times) my age. Older folks are so excited to see young people attracted to antiques. I grew up going to antique stores and fairs with my mom and I couldn't see my lifestyle any other way.

I'm bringing J along with my on this treasure hunting adventure to give him a little taste of what I do-- even if it means taking him (and me) away from skydiving for a weekend. And yes, I may have bribed him with food.

Happy weekend picking my fellow vintage lovers.

::get the look::

Thursday 27 October 2011

I spotted the oh-so-pretty Claire of De Lune rocking a beautiful (and pricy) Rebecca Minkoff shoulder bag. It looked awfully familiar. Luckily, you can get the look for a heck of a lot less. Oh, and that scarf she's wearing-- she just found a square of fabric at the thrift store. I want her whole outfit...plus the fuchsia lipstick.

::shop update // vintage::

::just some pretty photos::

Monday 24 October 2011

Oh, Monday, you came way too soon-- I wasn't done with Saturday yet. Last week was looong and this one is gearing up to look the same. Luckily, I spent this evening relaxing and photographing new items for the shop. Etsy's been stepping up their game and really adding some beneficial enhancements for buyers + sellers alike. Just in time for holiday shopping.

In an effort to cross off a to-do list item (#12: Update my portfolio on Cargo), I got lost in all the other amazing talent there. Mariana Garcia's photography is beautiful. Diggin' the boho and vintage feel in these photos.

::DIY // inspiration (clip)boards::

Thursday 20 October 2011

Since we're just renting until we find a home one day, it's difficult to decorate the place. I'm reluctant to purchased wall decor (like this) until I know it will work in our future space. So as an alternative, I've gone for a cheaper and less wall-damaging form of wall art. I found this image and did it myself.

I'm a huge fan of mixed-media and thought this would be a perfectly easy way to incorporate lots of things that inspire me. When I spotted four clipboards on the shelf at the thrift store this weekend, I was ready to start creating...

I went through my craft drawers and picked out things too pretty to be stored away. I tried to use things with different colors, textures and materials like metal, paper, cotton, leather, and plastic. After assembling each board, I hung them on a blank wall. I'm sure they'll change often as I find new things and cross of some of the projects that are up there.

::stylish space::

Tuesday 18 October 2011

I took a page right out of Anne's book with a little style to room inspiration and paired some stylish pieces with inspirational spaces. From looking at my closet and my home, you can definitely tell they belong together.

All of these colors and patterns make me so happy.

{I'm getting this in writing so I can hold myself accountable...}
After such a pretty art festival and a few weekends of mini-shopping sprees, it's time to put myself on a little spending freeze. Pinterest, among all the beautiful blogs I follow, makes it incredibly difficult not to create a list of wants a mile long. Lately I've been working on lots of contract design work. That means a lot of sitting at a computer screen. How do you other designer gals find time to keep your figure? I'm afraid this means I need to get up early to get a run in before the work day starts. Let's just say I'm not a morning person. But something's gotta give.

Here's to saving and getting healthy.

::weekend finds // leather::

Monday 17 October 2011

There was an awesome art festival this weekend in Ghent, a super cool area in Norfolk. I'm pretty certain I'd be content with going to art shows every weekend seeing quirky artists and their unique work. I found this incredible shoulder bag from a local leather worker and fell in love.

The woven detail is my favorite part and you can never go wrong with leather. Kelsie was there too with items from With Lavender and Lace-- which is soon to be a brick + mortar shop in Ghent. She had a vintage dress with gold studs that I took home, prefect for layering.

::all over the place::

Thursday 13 October 2011

I've been having some issues with the new laptop...for some reason I thought I was technologically savvy. The Mac gods say otherwise. It sounds like there is a robot inside the cd-rom-- it makes a weird siren noise every now and then. I'm hoping it's newborn hiccups or something similar.

Cheers to working computers and a very happy weekend. Any big plans? I have two auctions lined up and I'm hoping to land an old, large metal sign at this one place. I went early to scout out the inventory up for auction, and I'm a big fan of vintage typography.

In case you're looking for some vintage home decor. 6 petals has you covered. Here are some of the more recent items in the shop.

2/flower + birds ornate tin

Thursday 13 October 2011

I know. It just looks like a bunch of letters in that post title, but I does mean something, I promise. It's been a while since my last 'I'd rather be wearing.' Today it's definitely jeans and an easy top. I wouldn't have come up with this button up + striped layer combo, but Rebecca works magic. I love how natural she is. Friday would be better in an outfit like this. She also makes me miss my long hair because I want to put a bun on top of my head.

::treasure hunt::

Wednesday 12 October 2011

I'm so inspired by places + spaces-- especially in beautifully styled homes. My favorite as of late seems to be simple white walls with a collection of rustic/vintage/industrial pieces and strategically placed pops of color and details. When I'm looking for home decor I try to make it a personal treasure hunt. Only the best gets a spot. Although, here are many treasures that I'd gladly find a spot for...

::boot weather::

Monday 10 October 2011

The only excitement I have for a fall/winter season in Virginia is that I'll get to wear my boots and my awesome pea coat, which almost sums up my "winter gear." Oh, and seeing the leaves change-- I'm really looking forward to that. As the temperature begins to drop, the more nervous I get. I haven't spent more than a month north of Tallahassee. But geez, I love boots.

my growing collection...

Hope you're all enjoying pleasant fall breezes and soft leather boots. And to my family + friends in Florida, I'll be back as soon as the mercury drops below 60°.

::reuse::

Friday 7 October 2011

I'm guilt of going to the grocery store (every store, really) without reusable bags. Every time I get home I kick myself for adding more plastic bags to this one large cabinet in the kitchen. It's overflowing + embarrassing. Flô di Pá sure makes it look pretty to go a little greener.

::tipping the scale // DIY::

Thursday 6 October 2011

A while back I picked up this vintage wooden scale. I figured it'd go in the shop, but I realllly liked it. I imagined it holding jewelry on a vanity or fruit + veggies in a kitchen-- tipping the scale each time something was added or removed. Anyway, I kept it, painted it a mustard yellow (not sure why everything's getting coated in yellow?) and roughed it up with sandpaper. Right now it holds handfuls of acorns I found on a recent hiking adventure (see below). These acorns are impressively large, or maybe they just run smaller in Florida.

Preface: J's new hobby is shooting and editing little videos of our adventures. We visited his brother about 3 hours away. That's Katie in the still frame below. I did some vintage hunting while the others jumped off some high platform with a blow up shark, we watched a college soccer game, hung out with his brother's pet pig and hiked in Shenandoah National Park (were I collected acorns). At the end, that's me surprised-- I spotted a deer about 6 feet from me eating. He looked up at me and kept eating, then scattered once he knew he was being filmed...camera shy.

::{finally} succulents + handmade cards::

Tuesday 4 October 2011

I finally have my own succulents. After months of seeing beautiful ones all over the Web, I spotted these little green guys for less than a dollar and couldn't say no. I also had to fill these little blue jars with something. It was meant to be.

I finally got around to thank you cards and a couple 'miss you' cards for friends. I love mixed-media so I use paper, lace, tape, fabric, metal pieces, stamps, raised stickers...whatever I have in my craft drawers. Old Anthropologie + Free People catalogs make for great paper clippings.

::shop update // nature calling::

Tuesday 4 October 2011

An ode to flora and fauna. Those brass bookends are such a show stopper, those antlers! And of course, the vintage tin collection is growing. I'm also beginning to list some items in sets-- an instant collection. The first is a trio of wall hangings: flowers, deer and mushroom. Oh, and there's a butterfly in there.

::shop update // vintage leather purses::

Tuesday 4 October 2011

Because a lady can never have too many. Two beautiful leather bags are in the shop

1. vintage, black handbag with woven detail-- reminds me of an old medicine bag
2. 1970's vintage hand-tooled purse -- love this rich carmel color

::linens + things::

Sunday 2 October 2011

I picked up an amazing box of vintage lace, linens + trim this weekend. Can't wait to put it to good use. (I wish I had that cool organizer, and what's inside + on top.)
