::the honorary::

Tuesday 31 July 2012

Soon after Jay proposed, I made the calls to tell my family the big news. When I talked to my sister, I immediately asked her to be my Maid of Honor. It's been my plan since the day she was born. Well, this is probably more accurate on how it went down...

Me: "Meg. I'm engaged!"
Meghan: "Ahhhh! YAY! Well, aren't you gonna ask me?!"
Me: "Duh! Will you be my MOH?"

To make it more official, I gave her a little gift with this card I designed when I was home. I found a stack of vintage sheet music at a local thrift store a while back. I scanned them and planned to use them for digital collages.

So excited to have my best friend right by my side. I'm also pretty certain she'll plan a stellar bachelorette party.

Wednesday 25 July 2012

When I saw this post on Tomboy Style and watched the video I was amazed that little Lakeland, Florida was mentioned. That's where I went to college (and where I met Jay). It's a town filled with character, rich in Florida oranges and, for me, a place where many memories were made.

I wish I was still around to visit The Poor Porker at the local market for a hot, fresh beignet (I've never had one, but how can fried dough sprinkled with sugar be bad? AND bacon?!). Robyn and Jarrid have such a brave story about a cross-country move to start their business. And now their pastries are selling like hot cakes (had to).

I'm always a fan of people who turn trash into treasure, just look what this duo did with an old hutch they found in the dumpster! Oh, and Robyn's thrifted style is pretty impeccable. Check out The Poor Porker blog to see Robyn and Jarrid's awesome recipes, travels and how their thrifting and hand-crafting a unique home.

Tuesday 24 July 2012

The simple pleasures of a bicycle adventure with my guy. We ventured to Olde Towne, jumped on the ferry and pedaled to The Naro for an afternoon showing of Moonrise Kingdom. A perfect little Sunday if you ask me.

Monday 23 July 2012

My heart goes pitter-patter when I see paint-chipped wood and rustic decor. I always wonder where the pieces have been and who used them long ago. How great is that old ladder turned shelf? Would be fairly easy to make with an old pallet. Add that one to the 'make it' list.

::decisions::

Thursday 12 July 2012

This weekend I'm hopping a plane home to Florida. My youngest niece is getting baptized (I'm her Godmother!) and I'm always so happy to spend time with my family.

The girls (mom, sister, sister-in-laws) will be galavanting around with me to scope out a few more wedding venues and try on dresses...which really hasn't hit me yet. I'm not one for being the center of attention, so trying on dresses will be interesting.

Luckily, my mother is Superwoman and has been so helpful (and patient-- I get overwhelmed making these kind of decisions). And, my little sister will be my Maid of Honor. She's all kinds of awesome. There's no one I'd rather have for the part.

I came across this fun, outdoor wedding and really loved the advice the couple shared:

Regardless of what color the tableclothes are and what our invitations look like, our focus is making sure we enjoy every second celebrating with the people we love most.

Wednesday 11 July 2012

I'll admit it. I probably spend too much time on Pinterest. It's just so easy to find a ton of pretty pictures-- especially from Katie Kukulka's boards. Lots of floral, neutral tones and black & white beauties with an overall antique feel.

If you're looking for more inspiration, check out Katie's Lost Artisan blog.

Still lots and lots of pieces to be photographed, but we're making progress.

Feeling wonderfully inspired by this short video of artist Rebecca Rebouché. I love how her studio is filled with beautiful art, rustic decorative pieces and so much natural light. I mean, check out that floor to ceiling window! The best part though? That pet bunny hopping around.

::prepping // 6 petals vintage WEARS collection::

Friday 6 July 2012

This weekend I am staying put to continue prepping for the vintage wears collection. I've decided to dedicate another shop to the 6 petals brand to separate the two collections: one for the home/spaces & one for the lady. I will also be updating the original shop. It's been so rewarding to hear kind words buzzing about the new site and peoples' excitement for the clothing collection. So, THANK YOU...so, so much.

For now, the two shops are bare bones. This is all part of the branding process I suppose. More sophisticated inventory and attention to detail. I promise, you'll like it.

Thursday 5 July 2012

It was a hot Independence Day (and sadly, I didn't have a bathing suit to jump in that water). Yorktown is very small with a cute downtown area of historic buildings, private residences and a couple local eateries. I love how it isn't filled with commercial shops and restaurants. Although there was a super long line for Ben & Jerry's. Our view from the rocks watching the fireworks was pretty spectacular. And now, it feels like Monday again.

::richmond (and outskirts) adventure::

Thursday 5 July 2012

Last weekend, we visited another couple in Richmond to see their new place and go camping. They live on the second floor of a building from the 1800's. Their little neighborhood, just outside of the city, has tons of character. We walked over to a park across the street that overlooked the Lucky Strike cigarette factory.

It's such a pretty drive from Richmond to Staunton. There's old rustic farmhouses, quaint towns on winding roads and scenic mountain views. We hiked to a watering hole and jumped off fallen trees into cool, crisp water. Our campsite was right next to the river, so when dusk came we roasted marshmallows over the fire pit.

Our last stop was a beautiful winery called Veritas. I'd get married here...

::america the beautiful::

Tuesday 3 July 2012

It's gonna be really special to be in Virginia for Independence Day. There's a ton of history here and a strong military presence. Every day I get to see huge Naval ships in the Elizabeth River and fighter jets flying overhead. America is a beautiful place to be.

Jay and I will be enjoying a round of golf, delicious food and sparkly fireworks in historic Yorktown. I'm sure there'll be some antique hunting in there too. Happy Fourth!

This is too good. The simple pleasures of healthful food, bike adventures and shared moments with friends. Andrew and Carissa's videos are always stunning. I just ordered my copy of Vol. 4. Get your Kinfolk Magazine here.
